Today is Sunday!

Each week Urjit waits for this day with so much excitement. He knows that he has not to get up early and be ready for his school by 8.30 am when his school van will come and his Raju bhaiyya( the driver) will pick him up. By the time he is back home, it is almost 6.30 pm so it is a long long day for him. So he eagerly awaits Sunday.. and is very happy if I don’t send him to school on some saturdays too.
So this morning, when he got up, the first thing he asked me was “Mamma, why we cannot goto Singapore?” (Urjit’s nanu and nani left for Singapore today and both my sisters are already there.. so Urjit is missing them). I told him, yes we can.. but not now.. and we will go when you have holidays. So he was like today is a holiday. I said.. we want long holidays and he started counting.. how many.. 1,3,7, 10 or 100? How many days holiday? I explained him that we can plan sometime soon, and he was happy. Just after that, he confirmed with me, if he is going to have two days holiday now? I said, no it’s just today and tomorrow again school.
A few days back, we blocked all his cartoon channels so that we can restrict his TV viewing. So he was again with all sorts of queries, first we told him that we have to pay for the subscription and papa has not done the payment so they blocked it all. He was a bit convinced and used to remind his papa to do the payment. Gradually he saw that all other channels are coming, so we came with another story that all the kids are not studying so the dish tv guy has blocked all the kids channel, and I remember that day, the whole day Urjit was busy studying, doing writing, mathematics, he can do 2 digits as well as 3 digits addition and subtraction. So he studied alot that day and then he came to me.. and he is telling me.. “Mamma, call up the dishtv people and tell them.. our son( yes he said, our son, as I was supposed to call) is studying a lot. I said I will tell them but all other kids should also study like you. During those days, he used to be very very happy when we visited my mom’s place as he could watch cartoon. And at home, since he knew the channels are not coming, he never used to ask me about letting him see his cartoon and used to keep himself enagaged in his room, playing with his toys, doing painting and drawing, reading storybooks and all. I felt bad, so I asked his dad to unblock only one channel CN and he was very happy when we told him that dishtv guy has put one of his channel back
And recently, he has been acting very funny. He will ruffle his hair 3-4 times, an he will say…”look, I am Sharukh khan now”. He used to do it very often.. and he will come to me and ask me… “Mamma tell me, who am I? I am Urjit or Shah Rukh Khan??” I asked him to stop doing like that and also told him that he is Urjit and will remain Urjit only no matter how many times, he ruffles his hair. Thank God, he has stopped doing like that now. Maybe it was Om Shanti Om after effects
And these days he is also trying to talk with accent, he will say.. “Hey Mommy” and it sounds so funny, the way he says. Just yesterday, we had lunch with Urjit’s principal and some teachers and we were all discussing him, and they all had the same opinion, that his smile is very sweet but it is mischievious too, I know it all types
So he is enjoying his weekly off today and has been helping me in the kitchen, with the laundry.. was very keen to operate the washing machine on his own.. so I instructed him and then he only put the washing powder and put all his clothes in machine and was very happy with his achievement. Though he has already seen an hour of TV in the morning, he comes to me running every now and then with his eyes wide open and he will say “Mamma, look in my eyes, are they red?(again with accent)” And is I say no, then he will say I can watch TV for half an hour please… so finally I let him watch so that I can do some work on the laptop!
He is keen to watch the Goal movie today. Let’s see if it fits in our plan this evening or not. Well that’s it for today.

First of all..it is very nice of you to put up a whole site on him…telling of his whereabouts. Secondly, you have framed it so beautifully and in order.
I believe it must be hard to work as well as keep the site updated with his day to day activities. It needs a lot of dedication to have put up with such things. It takes time to relate about a person you like..highlighting the best moments you enjoyed with him despite your work schedules.
Sundays are a real treat for every children. I used to sometimes skip lunch at the noise of tv or bring the food plate with me before tv.Brings me back to my childhood days. I can imagine him ..in fact it seems as if he is infront of me when you relate his stories.. i do hope he understand Manipuri despite his birth in Banglore and upbringings outside manipur.
All the best to your family…and especially Urjit, without whom this site would not have been possible
Hi Dwipen, thanks for your sweet comments and yes we are trying hard to make him speak manipuri as well so that he can communicate well with others back home in Manipur. He does understand it though as I often find him giving his opinion, when we discuss something in manipuri. But I am sure, he will learn it fast if we visit manipur and he spends some time over there as same thing happened with my brother when he was young! He picked it up in just 10 days playing with other kids during our summer vacation.
