The advertising gurus and the people in the ad world are very smart people. Most of the products even if they are not particularly kid-centric, they always try to target the young kids as they know, these young kids do play a very important role in decision making.

The other day, I had gone to for my weekly shopping… and saw some nice offers on bedsheets, I went to check it out and was busy looking for the matching colors to go with my room décor, I noticed Urjit was also busy selecting one for himself and before I could finish with my selection, there he was with a bedsheet in hand, a POWER RANGERS one.. “mamma, this one is for my room, you have to buy this one” and he put it in the shopping bag. I had no other option but just to nod and also I did make him happy by saying that it will look very nice in his room. He felt so proud. It was an achievement for him.

After that, he wants to buy Parle G, I was like Parle G? As Sanna never eats biscuits, he hates eating biscuits, used to eat those cream one when he was very small, just used to lick the cream, chocolate inside and throw the biscuit. And then some days he eats that DIP TRIX, just because you get a mask free. When I asked him, why he wanted to eat Parle G, he said.. he wants to become a Genius. He must have heard the punch line and I am sure he realized the meaning of Genius recently ? SO there was he was going from counter to counter looking at various biscuits and trying to find Parle G ( of all the biscuits). So finally he got it… and then next he picked up a pack of Aamrakhand, I thought that he picked it by mistake thinking that it is his favorite cheese pack. When I asked what is this.. he was like.. You don’t know it is Aamrakhand, it is very yummy.I had tried giving him Aamrakhand once but he preferred eating Aamras, so I never bought after that. So there goes Aamrakhand in the shopping bag. Then, he went straight to the counter where pastas and noodles were there, and since I had strictly told him that I am not going to cook Maggie for him, he picked up Pasta.. three packets. He eats and buys pasta more because of the small toy..(which you might miss, if you don’t look in the packet carefully). Also whenever we goto McDonalds, he has to always eat the Happy meals so that he gets the toy. His room is full of toys and my brother-in-law often jokes about it. He says.. I want to get married soon and have a child.. and then I will hire a cargo service and pick up all or Urjit’s toys for my child. I need not buy anything.

Whenever we want to go out for dinner, he will ask us to go to this same restaurant, because they give these small puzzles. And he has got the same puzzles.. so many of them.

I am sure this must be the case with all the kids and the companies know, how to do more sales, how to attract kids and at the same time how to bring the parents to purchase their product, following their kids. I strongly feel that kids channels should avoid all such commercial ads.

We had a great time in Manipur and this time we stayed for a week. We did enjoy moving around in the state and Urjit was always full of questions. He did learn a few sentences of manipuri which was good for us. Here are some snaps taken in Manipur during our visit.

We went to Manipur Zoo and Urjit could not stop himself from shaking a leg when he saw so many monkeys around

We went to see Leimaram waterfall but on the way our car gave in. The road was so bad, so sanna and me just enjoyed looking at the scenery around and clicking snaps of the village and villagers around.

And finally we went to Sekmai to play in the water and it was good place. Urjit did enjoy playing with the stones and he was busy throwing them in the river.

And this was taken at home. Urjit riding our dog Tiger, while the other one Killer is in the background. Urjit was very happy to play with the two dogs.

So my son has got a cool new look after his mundan,he looks really cool. Before we went to Manipur for his mundan, both his dad and me were preparing him about shaving off his hair and we explained him that it is a ritual which everyone has to do when they are kids. And he was also quite happy and looking forward to it. Once when we reached Manipur, the preparation was already going on with people coming in every now and then. Urjit used to feel so happy thinking that everyone is working for his puja and his birthday celebration. Yes the mundan ceremony was done on his 5th birthday, 10th march and this year it was on Monday(same day as his dob). So we had the puja in the morning and in the evening we had the birthday party.

So that day when the barber came with his tools, Urjit was ready and happy about it. The barber started his work and Urjit was very happy, giving smiles for the cameras.. video and still…both.. and it was good till Urjit touched his head. He felt there was no hair.. and it was all gone… and half part of his head was still not done.. Urjit started started crying so badly.. it was tough to make him listen to us.. he just kept on crying..crying for his lost hair .. and the barber had a tough time. later on as soon as it was done, we got him ready for the puja and just to make him feel good, we got a hat for him.. yes a hat with the dhoti and kurta . SO he was with that hat only for the whole puja process and then after the puja, he went inside and he first went to the mirror to see himself.. I assume he felt happy with the new cool look..and then he just threw that hat away and was so happy later on.. so now he has been sporting it quite well and is feeling happy that he can go swimming more often now.
