Urjit Singh Sorokhaibam

Urjit’s best holiday experience so far has been his stay with Jackson and Callum in Vancouver. He had a great time playing and having fun with both his friends. Jackson is of same age as Urjit and Callum is 2 years younger, so all three of them got along really well.

We had been to Grouse Mountain, where they enjoyed the Famous Lumberjack show, the birds of prey show and then theatre in the Sky. On Sunday, they were taken for a picnic to the light house and they had a great day though it was a bit tiring. They enjoyed playing so much on the sand near the beach that it was fun to watch them. Two of them would fill up the bucket with sand and the third one would religiously take the bucket and put the whole sand on the toy train. They did so much hard work in digging out the sand, but there was perfect harmony and each one knew his role. So there was no chaos and it was a good sight for all of us.

Urjit was so happy to play with the sprinklers in the garden and then jump on the big trampoline. The three guys got along so nicely and they were feeling sad about leaving each other. The day before, we were to leave for Toronto, Jackson told his dad that it is going to be a sad day tomorrow as Urjit is leaving. When I narrated this to Urjit , he was telling me.. mamma you are telling me a sad thing, so you should not smile while telling such sad thing to me, you should have a sad face. And I was like.. ya.. I am also very sad about it and he felt good to know that I am also sad along with him and his friends.

Urjit liked his friends and also Vancouver so much that he has decided to build his house in Vancouver only. It was a tough time for him to decide the exact location, so he was asking me and his dad to help him out in finding the exact location in Vancouver for his future home. He keeps remembering both his friends very often. I wish someday when they are big boys, they get to see each other again.

The other day, over our skype sessions, I told my youngest sis Bem, that I am unable to sleep these days.

So Urjit(sanna) heard this and yesterday night when I went to bed with him, he was saying…. Read our conversation

Sanna – Mamma, I heard you telling Bem mausi that you are not able to sleep at night, so today I will also not sleep and I will be awake with you.
Me- Ya I am not able to sleep and my head also rolls.
Sanna – I think mamma, you have become a super power.. and your head keeps rolling all the time as you are getting power. I have seen in TV also. All super powers get their powers like that.
Me – I don’t think so.. as you also say your head is rolling sometimes.
Sanna- But your head rolls all the time. Do you think there may be more people in the world, whose head also keeps rolling like you.
Me- Yes there may be many more people.
Sanna – Ok
Me – I am not able to sleep, so you just sing a song for me.

He sings rubbing my shoulder.. chanda hai tu. mera suraj hai tu.. o meri aankhon ka tara hai tu…(as I often used to sing this to him)
And then he looks at me… he sees my eyes still open and he is like

Sanna – Ashhh, you are still not sleeping
Me- Please sing the song again and I will sleep this time.

Sanna sings again, the same lines..chanda hai tu. mera suraj hai tu.. o meri aankhon ka tara hai tu… and I act like sleeping

Sanna – Mamma, mamma.. are you sleeping.. mamma.. I will be scared.. dont sleep.. I am scared mamma.. Get up !!

Tuesday, first of July was Canada Day and we had planned to visit Toronto Zoo, along with Russ and Mo. It was a great time and we all were so tired after the long walk in the zoo and I know, it was Urjit who was still full of energy. We started early to avoid the rush, as Zoo was one of the popular destinations for most of the families with kids. We could tell that, by the long trail of cars in the traffic near to the Zoo and we thought that we were lucky enough to have decided to start early.

So as usual, Urjit was looking forward to the day as he is always excited about visiting the zoo. We had both checked the Toronto Zoo website before coming to Toronto. So Urjit was like… again night.. again morning.. again night and then when morning comes, we will go… why so late.. why not just next day and there in the Zoo, while most of us were tired, he was full of energy running around here and there. He enjoyed playing in the Kids Zoo section and posing for me.

Nowadays, whenever he talks to someone back home in India, he will tell them to come and visit us in Canada and will tell them, how they are supposed to come, take a flight from Mumbai to Canada. He is having a good time here, but he is missing Pune as well and always wants me to call up home so that he can talk to his mausi and grandparents.

These days he remembers his mamu and often talks to me about his mamu.I have finally told him that his mamu is dead and what happened to him, and he listened so carefully. He was asking me.. if mamu took all his clothes away with him.. what about  the monster tshirt? Bob always used to scare him after wearing that tshirt –neon one. These days he prays every night before he goes off to sleep and when I ask him, what does he pray.. He says he is praying for his mamu to come back soon as a child. He does asks me to show him his mamu’s snaps and videos and enjoys watching it.

I was thinking of uploading the cute snaps and video of Urjit  and his Bobo Mamu, which I had captured recently, never ever thought that this was going to be the last snap I am clicking of my dear brother and this was the last video I am making.

Life is tough and we all are still trying to cope with his loss and Urjit’s queries about his Bobo Mamu makes it really hard. I feel he is too young to understand death and what it means. But someday when he is big enough to understand, I will tell him how; lucky he is to have enjoyed his Bobo mamu’s company for 5 years. For my son, his mamu was his role model and always used to look forward to his vacations when Bobo mamu would come home and spend time with him doing all his favorite things.. painting, sketching, drawing, jumping around, fighting…

He was so happy when he came to know that his mamu has got a gf and he was the first one to inform me that his bobo mamu got a gf. Urjit always used to be moving around his mamu in nani’s place also so he saw bobo mamu’s photo holding one girl and he came running to me to inform me that bobo mamu has got a gf now. And when we used to call up Bobo and Bobo was busy playing on field or riding a bike, Seeratt would speak to him and Urjit was very excited the first time he spoke with her.. I remember his exact words.. He was telling me..”Mamma, I am sure this girl must be Bobo mamu’s girlfriend.” He was quick to add “For so many days, mamu was busy doing only coloring and sketching and finally in college he got one gf” and was happy for his Bobo mamu.

Bobbo was in school, when he came to know that I was expecting and he was very excited.  He had asked my sisters, if he is going to become a mama soon and he had come down with dad when Sanna was born. One day my mom-in-law was going for bath so she asked Bobo to keep an eye on Urjit. Urjit started crying so badly and Bobo as told to him.. was busy just looking at him.. not knowing what to do. And my mother-in-law still remembers how Bobo followed her words literally.. keep an eye!!

Recently also before leaving for Kerala, he used to come over to my place almost everyday and used to keep playing with Urjit.. reading story books, teaching him how to color, feeding him and making him sleep in the afternoons.. Urjit will get up in between.. and used to ask “ Bobo mamu, my sleeping time is over?” and Bob would say no.. hug him and then again let him sleep more. And when Urjit wanted to go for swimming he was so eager to take mamu along and swim with him….. Bobo was so patient with Urjit.. always so caring and when Sanna used to trouble him a lot.. by jumping over on him.. and he will raise his voice and say.. “Gutoor…”  that’s it.. but Urjit’s actions would again make him smile. During his last days he was so busy on phone talking and smsing and my son would keep on telling me.. “You know mamma, Bobo mamu loves his gf very much” when asked  “why?” . He would reply..” You see.. Bobo mamu is always busy talking to his gf, he talks with her for so long”.

Everyday he enquires me about his mamu, he knows that something bad has happened to his mamu but does not really know exactly. So he thinks that mamu is there in hospital, he got lost and he is not able to find his way back to home..and whenever we go out..he thinks we are going to meet his mamu. He often askes me to dial Bobo ‘s number so that he can talk to his mamu. I have told him that Bobo mamu has gone very far from us….. Urjit does not know that he mamu is no more with us and we are left with only the sweet memories of his dearest mamu……….
